Re: Young Birds lost appetite

There is scope for trying them om layers pellets to see if they eat better. Mixed corn or wheat in the diet will even out any excess or deficiency. I have fed growers on layers pellets for years after they came off chick crumb.

Re: Not laying due to trauma?

Living in fear can certainly put them off lay and even if they are too old to lay, they need a calm, settled environment if you are going to keep them. Your dog may not change.

Re: Plants/trees

Fruit trees are good but they do need protecting in the early days as the chickens will leap up and defoliate them ! Also the roots need protecting. I find the willows very useful as they are fast growing but they need to be cut back regularly if you don't want to be overwhelmed.

Re: need to install cctv

Persistent, out of control egg eating is a very valid reason for getting rid of hens, particularly if you want eggs ! Re: Young Birds lost appetite

I agree with chris, they shouldn't need worming at this stage and it's not good to have sdditives constantly in the water such as cider vinegar.

They will be OK on wheat or mixed corn.

Re: do ducks go into lock down as in artificial incubation?

Even after hatching, she will spend another day on the ducklings and any eggs that have not hatched. They know by instinct what to do so you might as well relax.

Re: Failed to hatch goose eggs again

They don't need water to mate successfully and dry land is fine. Mine do wet and dry matings but only when the field gets flooded do they do the wet !. Your problem probably is that there is fighting over the eggs and they get rolled from one place to another and get cold. If you could do one goose,...

Re: Itchy chickens...

Check for lice on the body, especially around the vent. They are longish, quite pale and move quickly. Also check the coop for red mite which hide in the cracks and come out at night (grey) to suck the blood and return to their crevices (red). They travel along the perches so get a white paper towel...

Yes, be very careful with the circular saw. A jig saw is much safer.
