Re: Very noisy hens, what shall I do?

I know Marigold, 9 hens is far too much for a family of four (plus baby). We don't eat all eggs, we pass a lot onto our family and friends. At the same time, as you said, they are my babies, all of them I saw growing from baby chicks... My partner has given up on them long time ago despite sharing m...

Re: Very noisy hens, what shall I do?

Well, the trouble with our neighbours is that they will never tell you face to face until one day 'noise nuisance officer' turns up on your doorstep... It happened in the past with our cockerel which I admit, we didn't manage well as we were only starting with chickens... I think the girls are compl...

Very noisy hens, what shall I do?

Hello there, we have a flock of 9 girls, all getting on very well. They are a family (two Mums and their chicks of a different age), all in laying age now. One of the hens started to make incredible noise about a week ago. Two other hens do like to join in. They all make very similar noise (although...

Re: Scraps or no scraps, which is best?

I am strongly against feeding chickens with raw meat... ...but... growing up at the smallholding where all food leftovers were either composted or fed to animals (and we all survived without harm) I really don't understand why chickens can't have kitchen waste. My logic is (and it doesn't mean I do ...

Do pure breed cockerels struggle with their duties?

Just a simple question and you will probably think I am a bit :-)07 to ask this question but... Friend of ours had two lots of eggs from reputable breeders of blue orpingtons. Our broody was happily sitting on them (and the other broody is now sitting on the second lot of eggs) but the amount of fer...

Broody hen looking for work (surrogacy?)

Hello, we have a hen that goes in and out of broodiness. Well, we have three of them (Mum and two daughters). As they are our pets I am happy to let the nature to dictate... It is quite difficult to get them out of broodiness anyway. They are very good hens, very devoted and overprotective. None of ...

How soon can you separate baby chicks from Mum

We have a broody hen who goes in and out of broodiness. She is a pet so we try to 'put up' with it as we have few other hens supplying us with just enough eggs for family of four. We have offered her services, basically - she is going to be a surrogate hen for a friend of ours. He will supply eggs o...

I can't really answer your question, sorry, but we have almost 24weeks old hens and no sign of eggs at all... Quite frustrating...
