Re: Comfrey

I put freshly picked comfrey leaves around my tomatoes in the greenhout, within a week they've rotted down and disappeared. Last year I did it weekly instead of tomato feed ....worked for me, I don't think the tomato harvest suffered and it's not as smelly as the dreaded comfrey tea 😂

Re: So happy, broody duck

Thank you, I have 5 ducks & a drake. Fertility is good, even with posted eggs, I'm sure it helps that I'm lucky enough to have a stream running through the garden.

So happy, broody duck

I keep miniature appleyard ducks, they're great mothers ....the trick is getting them to nest where it's safe. Mine free range so that's not easy, however I have a small spare chicken/duck house. I keep it shut most of the time, a few years ago I left it open with bedding in expecting one of my bant...

Re: Dry hatching

I added water, the chicks positively bounced out of the eggs ! 7/8 hatched so pleased with that.

Dry hatching

I have eggs due in a couple of days in the incubator, I've relied on broody hens for last few years, and can't remember when dry hatching if you add water towards the end.....my feeling was that the weather is so muggy at the moment that I wouldn't need to......just having a wobble now :? I have bor...

How do they hang on to eggs ?

I have 4 mini appleyard ducks & a drake that free range . I was contacted by someone desperate for fertile eggs, as they tend to lay all over the garden I penned them.....after 5 days I had 3 eggs ! I let them out and lo and behold I had 4 eggs on consecutive days . How do they do that ? I know why ...

Re: Thuringians at 2 years

Beautiful birds, I've only just become aware of this breed. I currently only keep / breed faverolles but these are very, very tempting :D I'm a sucker for a nicely muffled face !!
