Re: concerns around Broody

My broody Silkie is a simply wonderful mother, and hatched 8 chicks two and a half weeks ago. They are all round her, jump on her, fly up to her, and are a pleasure to watch, and she certainly mothers them and watches out for them, she doubles in size wings spread, when any of the bantams free in th...

Re: Weird growths on chickens face [pics]

I have a gold Silkie, a mature one, I think the bump above her beak is because she is a he and it is his comb starting to grow, which in a mature male Silkie is a large black blob on the face above the beak, might say unsightly blob. No idea what the other growths are, but he looks a lovely calm, an...

Re: 8 newcomers

All have 5 toes, only 2 have black beaks and skin, and all are a very pretty lemony colour with darker backs. All seem lively and very chirpy. It is lovely to see them climb all over Lottie, and appear from her! I think she is a good mum, and protective of her brood.

Re: 8 newcomers

No 8 arrived this morning, from a very cold egg! I didn't hold out any hope for it, but she pushed it back under her, with a positive result. Today they are outdoors, in a little hut which is ideal, she is spread like a large yellow pancake over them all.
All seem healthy and lively. (ATM).

8 newcomers

My Silkie Lottie yesterday hatched 8 little Lottie/Pierres, dad is my lemon cuckoo Pekin. I will be interesting to see how different they will be from each other, and if there are many differences. Both are lovely birds, and if anyone on the forum feels the need they are welcome to have one of them ...

Re: Ancona Chicks

Just this week lost my last Ancona girl - nearly 5.
Loved her to bits, just be prepared for the noise, though if you have not had Anconas before, great layers, and forever telling everyone off. She was still laying when she died.
