Re: Very pleased to report..........

I have 5 Croads, 2 RIRs, and lovely floppy overweight Gloria, my Barred Plymouth Rock, and the three growers who are in the same pen, separated. None of the Croads are youngsters anymore, so may get a couple of white ones this year. which will be interesting, as they will not be related , obviously!...

Very pleased to report..........

3 very large Croad eggs yesterday, and that my 3 growers, are doing just that. My purebred white Leghorn utility pullets are lovely and slim and lively. The blue egg layer, another purebred is also growing apace she does appear a fearful creature though, very nervous and timid. I will persevere and ...

Silkies are bantams, but do they come in 2 sizes?

I believed that Silkies are one of the few true bantams, but I keep seeing ads for miniature Silkies in the ebay eggs for sale section. Can some very kind soul enlighten me on this subject please?

Re: Happy Christmas to all of my forum friends

Happy Christmas and a great 2019 to you all.

I have put out my little growers for next year 2 white purebred Leghorns and a Cream Legbar. Should do the trick. Have an egg a day now from
Gloria, my barred Plymouth Rock. She must have got the message!!

I agree with Marigold, but did not like to say so yesterday.
The purple tinges are an indicator of heart problems, but lets hope not, hope he recovers for you.

Re: RIp little hen. You had a great life.

So sorry, Lady A. A nice way to go though, was she a hybrid? All of my girls, apart from my growers for next year, are between 2 and 6 years. My Pekins must be now well over 6, although my Pekin babies from last year fell like flies at about three months, absolute little beauties no sign of illness,...

Re: Query about bedtime

Hello Clatters and welcome, Please don't let them roost outside unless they are truly safe and foxproof. I did and the fox got in and killed 6 one night, I thought my run was foxproof, but he bit the chicken wire through at floor level. I do have one very silly and tame girl who waits for me EVERY n...

Re: A cockerel?

No, chickens are never boring. My ancient Pekin bantam cockerel, Pierre, has suddenly become a real mummy's boy, I can pick him up and cuddle him, this is a first, and at 5 or so years old his ladies obviously told him the advantages of being kind to people. Is your avatar a BPR? I have just one gir...

Re: A cockerel?

Thanks Hen--Gen,

My conclusion, I am quite good a sexing too, suddenly, it appears bigger and sturdier and with thicker bones. I must say, they are darlings. some of the chirpiest, best natured chicks have ever hatched. No shyness at all, just happy and chirpy and friendly.
