anyone any ideas please

I have a silkie hen about the age to come into lay. After finding a hen with some northern fowl mite on her I decided to treat them all yesterday with ivermectin. When I picked this hen up she seemed OK and her crop was full. This morning when I went to let them out this hen was very slow to react a...

Re: Help needed over badly attacked chicken

Once she has healed and her feathers grown back you could always try moving the Light Sussex from the others as she appears to be the bully. Keep her in the other run so the little one has time to get established as part of the group before returning the bully this could take up to a week. When you ...

Re: Just started moulting - not very happy hen

I hope someone can answer this for you as I have a girl very much the same and I must admit to be worried about her. Pale comb, feathers dropping everywhere but she just does not want to mix with the others. Crop has a little in on a night but not lots just so much like your girl.

Re: Dogs and chickens (westies)

my cat who is a big hunter does ignore my hens in fact he scurrys away if they come anywhere near him its almost as if he knows not to touch. I do have bantams which was a worry at first, mind you my border collie guards the hens and would give him short shrift if he tried anything.

Re: Dogs and chickens (westies)

In my experience all dogs are different and you will need to see which sort yours fits into. I have a border collie and he is amazing with my hens looks after them and if the cat goes near chases it off the only problem with him is if they start to stray too far he puts his paw on them to stop them ...

Re: Too Good To Be True?

I do exactly the same as you with my boy. He has a house inside my garage which is very dark no windows and each night he goes in there until a reasonable hour. 7.30 on a a week day and the neighbours get a rest till 9 on a weekend. In the winter I'm assuming that he will be able to stay with the gi...
